Summary Of Position
The CAD Team Intern will support the Information Technology team in maintaining and enhancing the computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system used in public safety operations. This hybrid internship provides hands-on experience in system troubleshooting, user support, inventory management, and CJIS-compliant security practices. The intern will work closely with IT staff to observe real-time dispatch operations, assist with technical documentation, and contribute to ongoing system maintenance projects.

Essential Functions
- Conduct general research on CJIS compliance, cybersecurity practices, and CAD-related IT policies.
- Observe simulated security audits and document findings and best practices.
- Identify outdated or at-risk IT equipment and suggest improvements.
- Assist during CAD system maintenance, upgrades, or emergency support operations.
- Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior.
- Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program.
- Available to work a minimum of 20 per week.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- High school diploma or currently enrolled in a college or technical program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in IT support, public safety systems, or related technical fields.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and software applications.
- Familiarity with IT support concepts such as troubleshooting, user access, and helpdesk protocols.
- Awareness of data privacy, cybersecurity, or CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) compliance is a plus.
- General knowledge of public safety operations or emergency communication systems is helpful but not required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and user interaction.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to balance multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or Google Workspace.
- Research and analytical skills for reviewing technical materials and security policies.
- Attention to detail when reviewing system logs, documentation, or inventory data.
- Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid work environment.
- Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, especially in support of public safety operations.
- Ability to learn new technologies and systems quickly with guidance and training.
