Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Parks is seeking dependable and qualified individuals to fill part-time non-civil service STEM/STEAM Program Designer positions.

Summary Of Position
Baltimore City Recreation and Parks (BCRP) offers out-of-school time STEM/STEAM opportunities at Rec2Tech focused recreation centers across Baltimore City. BCRP's Rec2Tech initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to engage with STEM/STEAM content through hands-on experiences while exploring careers in the STEM/STEAM fields.
Specialized Instructors (STEM and Maker Ed) will develop specialized STEM/STEAM/MakerEd courses for young people and will lead a minimum of one 10–20-hour course per program session (fall, winter, spring, summer). Courses will be offered at one of five BCRP Rec2Tech locations during evening hours (M-F 5pm- 8pm), on Saturdays, and/or seasonally (i.e.: summer).
Specialized Instructors will work with BCRP's STEM Coordinator to identify new content focused on one of the Rec2Tech key pathways of robotics, computer science, engineering, electronics, and/or digital fabrication/maker education. Existing supplies, materials, and equipment will be provided to support course delivery. On occasion, new supplies, materials, and equipment will be purchased to support new courses. Specialized Instructors will write a course syllabus, develop course curriculum, write lesson plans, and provide training for peers on all newly developed courses.

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor’s degree (or actively pursuing) in Education or in a STEM/STEAM content area.

NOTES(EQUIVALENCIES): Education Work Equivalency: Three years of related work experience in a STEM/STEAM profession such as an artist, designer, maker, or in a related industry or trade position will satisfy the degree requirement for this position.

- Identify new content aligned to Rec2Tech pathways and student interest.
- Design specialized courses related to new content identified.
- Develop syllabus, curriculum, and lesson plans for specialized courses.
- Share developed content by providing training for staff.
- Teach a minimum of one 10–20-hour course, per program session (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer).
- Prepare for daily lessons by reviewing and practicing activities prior to program delivery.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate a variety of learning styles and capabilities.
- Guide, encourage, support, and supervise a group of 10-15 students during class time.
- Implement and maintain appropriate behavioral management for program participants.
- Ensure safety and productivity of participants.
- Submit completed syllabus, curriculum, and lessons to share drive for BCRP agency access.
- Complete and submit daily attendance tracking during course offering.
- Administer and collect end of session and student interest surveys.
- Assist with recruiting and identifying students for specialized courses.
- Support additional STEM program activities as schedule allows
EDUCATION: Have a bachelor’s degree (or actively pursuing) in Education or in a STEM/STEAM content area.

- Experience teaching or leading programs for K-12 students.
- Experience teaching or leading programs for adults.
- Experience in developing curriculum.
- Experience with a specialized trade.
- Experience developing programs, activities, and/or lessons specifically for STEM/STEAM content not required, but a plus.
