Description
The City of Battle Creek is looking for a Water Meter Technician to perform work troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, adjusting, assembling, and installing water meters and meter reading equipment; related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the limited supervision of the Foreman II.
Examples of Duties
- Disassembles water meters, repairs or replaces broken and worn parts, reassembles and tests water meters. May read and record water meter consumption figures by manual or electronic means. Repairs or changes water meters and meter reading equipment on consumers' premises.
- Advises management of need for meters and parts used in making meter repairs.
- Installs temporary construction meters and operates hydrants and valves. Operates meter testing equipment including hydraulic and pneumatic tools. Sandblasts, cleans and paints meters for reuse. Installs water meters and related water meter reading equipment. Locates and cleans curb boxes, operates curb stops.
- Maintains records of tests, materials expended, and labor charged to each repair operation and other records and reports. Checks water meters and water services while addressing consumer concerns. Enters data in work order management systems on office and mobile devices.
- Locates underground municipal facilities as required for emergency excavations. Check portable and fire service installations to insure proper metering and billing. Assist plumbing inspector and performs cross connection control inspections.
- Utilize Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Read System.
- Operates motor vehicles in relation to job duties.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years experience in mechanical, plumbing or meter reading work.
- Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
