Essential Job Functions: Responsible for the inspection, cleaning, servicing, repair and proper mechanical operation of a wide range of equipment, controls and physical facilities used in a wastewater treatment operation, including major and minor repair work to pumps, motors, and other mechanical equipment as well as buildings and fixtures; utilizes a wide range of equipment including common hand and power tools, welding machines, acetylene/oxygen cutting machines, drill presses, air compressors, sand blasters, paint sprayers, etc.; operate motor vehicles and material handling equipment such as forklifts, excavator, and crane; prepares required maintenance reports and records.
Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required.
Required to work in all types of weather and confined spaces; constantly exposed to wastewater and sludge in various stages of treatment, high voltage electricity, noise, hazardous chemicals and gases, and other conditions associated with a wastewater treatment facility; works Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, overtime when necessary; subject to being called out 24 hours a day.
Knowledge: Basic knowledge of equipment mechanics and the common tools of the trade; familiarity with motors, controls, and pump principles is also required.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work from sketches, blue-prints, O&M manuals, equipment specifications and verbal instruction to trouble shoot problems and effect the necessary repairs in an efficient and safe manner; skilled in the proper use of hand tools, small power tools, air compressors, welding, cutting equipment, and drill presses, etc.
Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently climbs, drives, reaches, twist body, bends, reads, cleans, walks, writes by hand, stoops, squats, uses physical dexterity, operates a two-way radio, carries objects weighing up to 55 lbs., lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
Education/Experience: High school graduate or equivalent; some formal vocational training in mechanics, experience in welding, electrical motor or pump repair or related field preferred.
Must possess a valid CDL driver's license with a good driving record. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire shall be subject to drug/alcohol screen test.
