Beaverton Police Department is seeking a skilled administrative professional to provide complex administrative support to the department’s Professional Standards Unit. The Professional Standards Unit is responsible for investigating complaints from members of the public concerning the performance, demeanor, and behavior of police personnel. The unit also conducts internal investigations concerning violations of department policy and criminal law and maintains confidential personnel files of our employees. The unit is also responsible for the recruitment, testing, and hiring of new sworn personnel as well as facilitating internal specialty assignment and promotional processes within the department.
The Professional Standards Support Specialist will respond to correspondence, prepare official documents and reports, maintain records, and coordinate and special projects. They will also work closely with recruiting and hiring processes, to assist with scheduling and tracking. Due to the nature of the Unit’s work, this position will work frequently with complex, confidential, and highly sensitive information.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, Beaverton Police Association-classified position. The classification is Police Support Specialist 3. There is one vacancy.

- Provide administrative support to the Professional Standards Unit including the Investigative Division Captain, the Professional Standards Lieutenant, the Recruiting and Hiring Sergeant, and background investigators.
- Manage the department’s scheduling software and update it accurately.
- Track, update, and maintain the department’s policy manual following legislative changes, Lexipol recommendations, and at Senior Command’s direction.
- Serve as the Professional Standards liaison between the Professional Standards Unit and the department’s Accreditation Manager.
- Provide administrative support for department personnel changes in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Create and archive background packets.
- Process employee commendations and Risk Management Reviews.
- Assist the Recruiting and Hiring Sergeant with the testing processes for new officers.
- Provide clerical support for the departments hiring managers for internal and external processes.
- Participate in the department’s Awards and Recognition Team.
- Additional duties as outlined in the Police Support Specialist 3 classification.
- High school diploma or GED and
- Four years’ administrative support experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprints must be completed and cleared prior to the start date.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification and satisfy the requirements of a background check.
- Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.

Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
