What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Maintenance Worker position at CITY OF BEDFORD?
Maintains parks, lawns, restrooms, public facilities, and other City properties by performing the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs turf and lawn care by mowing, trimming and edging around walks, walls and planting beds. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth and removes damaged leaves and branches.
- Constructs planting beds and turf areas while maintaining outdoor areas to include picking up trash, pulling weeds, and other light landscaping duties. Cleans grounds and removes litter. Rakes and bags leaves and other debris.
- Performs general maintenance and construction to include but not limited to minor electrical, concrete, painting, flooring and carpentry work as well as light bulb replacement, door lock repair, installation of bulletin boards and pictures, etc. Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs on equipment such as tractors, lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws and other equipment.
- Prepares athletic fields for games, assists in decoration and preparation for City sponsored holidays and special events.
- Picks up and delivers parts and supplies for maintenance as requested.
- Performs routine janitorial services to the building as needed such as mopping, sweeping, and wiping down tables, emptying trash, cleaning windows and dusting. Buffs and maintains the floors of the facility.
- Must have the ability to adhere to a flexible weekly schedule.
- May perform special assignments as required.
- Regular and timely attendance is required, as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma / GED; plus one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Texas Driver's License.
