What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Parks Maintenance Worker position at City of Watauga?
Under general supervision, conducts work involving performance of manual labor and semi-skilled tasks requiring the use of some acquired skills in Parks activities which may include occasional operation of trucks, tractors, or other mechanized equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs semi-skilled to skilled work in one or more specialized areas of municipal parks operations to include mowing, weed-eating, cleaning buildings, mower maintenance, trash pick-up, planting trees, painting, playground inspections, equipment installation, etc.
- Accomplishes work as assigned in the operations of park maintenance and special events
- Repairs or replaces damaged items in or around facilities or parks.
- Installs landscape and ornamental plant materials and irrigation systems as assigned.
- Operates a variety of maintenance and construction equipment in projects involving complex operating conditions.
- Performs duties to support the Parks and Community Services programs and rentals.
- Receives assignments and instructions by a supervisor but is expected to use some discretion in determining proper work methods and procedures.
- Performs other work as assigned
SCOPE OF SUPERVISION
- Works under general supervision of the Parks Supervisor or designee.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or equivalent; experience or training in Park maintenance and development of facilities, landscaping, and activities preferred.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both in an indoor and outdoor work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.

- Landscape methods, techniques and principles.
- Tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in landscaping activities.
- Work zone safety procedures.

- Using power and hand tools such as string trimmers, blowers, etc. on a regular basis.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City departments, and the general public.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
