SUMMARY
Directs, coordinates, and performs daily activities of workers engaged in maintaining, repairing, installing and relocating of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Using maps and engineering plans, physically locates water and sewer facilities to ensures conformance with specifications.
2. Installs, replaces, and repairs water meters.
3. Assist Water Quality Crew Chief with water distribution and groundwater sampling.
4. Assist Water Distribution Crew Chief with investigating billing complaints and completing leak investigations.
5. Completes routine maintenance and repairs on fire hydrants, water valves, and water and sewer mains.
6. Installs water and sewer taps.
7. Operates and services heavy equipment such as backhoes, jetter trucks, trenchers, tractors, vacuum trucks and trailers, television inspection devices and other equipment used in the repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines.
8. Originates and receives work orders through the work order system. Enters completed data into the system to close the request in a timely manner.
9. Performs or assists workers in installing or repairing water systems.
10. Assists other Divisions of the Public Works Department as needed including standby and emergency call back.
11. Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
12. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
In absence of a Crew Chief, supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma / GED and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
- Possession of a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License OR a TCEQ Class II Wastewater Collection License.
- Possession of a Work Zone Traffic Control certification.
- Optional: Ability to obtain a Class C Groundwater Treatment Operator License within one (1) year of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSA’S
Working knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection system. Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater, and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices. Demonstrated ability to operate trenching and back fill equipment and to perform routine equipment maintenance. Must have or be able to complete a confined space training.
