The Community Development Department is dedicated to fostering vibrant neighborhoods, maintaining high-quality commercial and residential environments, and supporting a strong local economy that reflects the goals of our community. We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to support the Planning Division with a range of assignments related to both current development and long-range planning efforts.

Please note: Applicants must be in the process of earning a college degree or have graduated with a degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Policy, or related field.This classification is designed to assist individuals in gaining experience in a job area or in exploring career opportunities. This is a part time classification, and no regular positions may be allocated to this classification. Incumbents in this classification may not work more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
The following duties are typical of those performed by incumbents in this class. However, assignments may vary greatly, and duties will vary according to assignment:
- Interacts with members of the public;
- Researches requests for information;
- Learns interview, research, investigation, counseling, and other techniques utilized in job assignments;
- Prepares and writes reports;
- Makes arithmetic calculations;
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations serving the public.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Education:
Applicants must be in the process of earning a college degree or have graduated with a degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Policy, or related field.

LICENSE AND/OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This class includes administrative or clerical positions requiring light physical effort, which may include frequent lifting of up to ten pounds and occasional lifting of up to twenty-five pounds. Ability to place or retrieve items at below waist level may be required. Considerable moving about may be involved.
