JOB SUMMARY: To repair and maintain City streets and right of ways within the jurisdiction to the City.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates all heavy equipment such as backhoe, mini-ex, skid steer, etc.
2. Operates bush hog in weed control of City properties, right-of-ways, and ditches.
3. Operates asphalt roller for street overlay and street cut repair.
4. Operates street sweeper and vacuum truck for cleaning of streets and curbs.
5. Operates hand and power tools to make street repairs.
6. Assists in cleaning and replacing culverts, drains, ditches and bridges.
7. Disposes of brush and limbs that fall in the right of way. (cut, chip, burn)
8. Performs concrete maintenance. (street, curbs, tile)
9. Replaces and repairs signs throughout the city.
10. Other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Repairs street signs and poles. (Operate computer and fabricate)
2. May be required to serve on-call or be available in inclement weather situations for call-outs.
3. Repairs signal lights.
4. Operates dump truck and other vehicles as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise three to seven Laborers and Truck Drivers .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of techniques of loading and transporting heavy equipment.
Good knowledge of maintenance requirement for heavy equipment.
Good knowledge of traffic and safety regulations.
Good knowledge of city streets and right-of-ways.
Knowledge of surfacing materials.
Knowledge in soil conditions, opening ditches so as to prevent flooding or cave-ins.
Skill in operation of equipment in high traffic areas so as to insure the safety of the public
and other employees.
Skill in the safe operation of a brush chipper, leaf vacuum, dump truck, street sweeper,
bush hog, and asphalt roller.
Ability to observe obstructions and problems at work sites.
Ability to maintain records of street cuts in computer files.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent and nineteen (19) to twenty-three (23) months related experience.
2. Must hold a current Class B (commercial Driver) license and maintain for duration of employment in this position.
3. Drivers training course, work zone safety training.
4. Defensive driving school.
5. Flagging school.
