SUMMARY As set forth by the Parks Maintenance Manager, coordinates and performs the daily activities of parks maintenance workers engaged in the maintenance of City grounds, parks, and recreational areas by performing the following duties.  Acts as the “lead” for their crew and is responsible for the crew’s daily activities, work performance and equipment upkeep and maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting relationships, work assignments, work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements.  Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Work weekends, holidays as needed. Operate forklift, aerial lift, skid steer and other equipment. Receive certification for CPR, AED, and other certifications as needed. Daily work orders, meet yearly goals, assist with budget forecasting, assist with material and equipment requisition, including researching available options, providing recommendations, gathering quotes, maintain tools and equipment used in performance of duties, and attend meetings and trainings.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

When Assigned Duties in Grounds Maintenance

 

Responsible for supervising full, temporary and/or seasonal employee

 

Responsible for working with Parks Maintenance Foreman and other department crew leaders to oversee operations during inclement weather event. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events.

 

Work with Parks Maintenance Foreman, Parks Maintenance Manager and the Parks and Recreation Director to assist with determining the need for park improvements, capital projects and necessary budget items.

 

Athletic Field Amenities: check, repair, replace, paint, backstops, fences, bleachers, players benches.

 

Baseball / Softball Fields; regrade, repair, reconstruct, drag, line, rake, check bases, mounds, plates, artificial turf maintenance.

 

Electrical Systems: check, repair, replace, lighting, scoreboards.

 

Football / Lacrosse Fields; layout, lining, general maintenance; check, repair.

 

Soccer Fields; layout, lining, general maintenance; check, repair, install/remove goals & nets.

 

Cricket Field; paint, general maintenance, artificial turf maintenance, place cricket rope, leaf removal

 

Volleyball: Rake and maintain sand levels, secure netting, general maintenance, leaf removal

 

Common Areas; check, repair

 

Soccer Goals: check goal anchors (Daily when goals are out on fields)

 

Maintains healthy turf areas in all park’s facilities. Fertilize, irrigate, aerate etc.

 

Maintains healthy trees by pruning, fertilizing, watering, mulching etc.

 

Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs.

 

Cleans grounds and removes litter.

 

Keeps Park facilities free of debris or graffiti.

 

Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris.

 

Rakes and/or bags leaves. 

 

Maintains fall surface under play structures.

 

Shovels snow from walks, biking trails and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.

 

Confers with the Parks Maintenance Manager to help coordinate the support of activities of other City Departments.

 

Interprets company policies to workers.  Acts as the “On Site” supervisor for enforcing safety regulations.

 

Assist with special projects performed by the Parks and Recreation Department including, but not limited to, construction projects, ballfield preparations, special events or programming and holiday lights display.

 

Performs activities of workers supervised.

 

When Assigned Duties in Building/Facility Maintenance

 

Responsible for supervising full, temporary and/or seasonal employees.

 

Responsible for working with Parks Maintenance Manager, Foreman, and other department crew leaders to oversee operations during inclement weather event. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events.

 

Work with Parks Maintenance Supervisor and Parks and Recreation Director to assist with determining the need for park improvements, capital projects and necessary budget items.

 

Pool, Splash Pad, Fountain Amenities; check, repair, replace, paint, lighting.

 

Chemical: check, monitor, report daily chlorine levels, equipment

 

Electrical Systems: check, repair, diagnose, replace.

 

Pump Rooms: check, repair, replace, general maintenance.

 

Walking/Biking Trails and Parking lots; maintain, construct new, replace damaged sections, re-stripe, reseal, install signage.

 

Assist with installation of Holiday Light Display

 

Preferably be able to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, bulldozer, forklift, tractor etc.

 

Preferably be able to grade and re-grade soil to construct new park amenities or repair existing ones.

 

Keeps Park facilities painted and free of debris or graffiti.

 

Preferably have intermediate plumbing and electrical skills. 

 

Operates industrial truck to transport materials within City.

 

Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris.

 

Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs.

 

Maintains fall surface under play structures.

 

Shovels snow from walkways, biking trails, bridges, city parks, city parking lots, and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.

 

Confers with the Parks Maintenance Foreman to help coordinate the support of activities of other City Departments.

 

Interprets company policies to workers.  Acts as the “On Site” supervisor for enforcing safety regulations.

 

Assist with special projects performed by the Parks and Recreation Department including and other local organizations but not limited to, construction projects, ball field preparations, special events or programming and holiday lights display.

 

Performs activities of workers supervised.

 

When Assigned Duties in Mowing and Landscape Maintenance


Responsible for supervising full, temporary and/or seasonal employees.

 

Responsible for working with Parks Maintenance Manager, Foreman, and department crew leaders to oversee operations during inclement weather event. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events.

 

Work with Parks Maintenance Manager and Parks and Recreation Director to assist with determining the need for park improvements, capital projects and necessary budget items.

 

Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.  Maintains hard and soft surface trails.  Grubs and weeds around bushes, trees, and flower beds.

 

Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.  Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.

 

Participates with parks maintenance workers in preparing and grading terrain, applying fertilizers, seeding, and sodding lawns.

 

Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris.

 

Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs.

 

Rakes and/or bags leaves.  Cleans grounds and removes litter.  Picks up and/or carts away paper and rubbish.

 

Maintains fall surface under play structures.

 

Assist with special projects performed by the Parks and Recreation Department and other local organizations including but not limited to, construction projects, ballfield preparations, special events or programming and holiday lights display.

 

Shovels snow from walks, biking trails and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.

 

Makes repairs to concrete and asphalt walks and biking trails.

 

Confers with the Parks Supervisor to help coordinate the support of activities of other City Departments.

 

Interprets company policies to workers.  Acts as the “On Site” supervisor for enforcing safety regulations.

 

Performs activities of workers supervised.


When Assigned Duties in Sanitation


Responsible for supervising full, temporary and/or seasonal employees.

 

Responsible for working with Parks Maintenance Manager, Foreman, and department crew leaders to oversee operations during inclement weather event. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events.

 

Work with Parks Maintenance Manager and Parks and Recreation Director to assist with determining the need for park improvements, capital projects and necessary budget items.

 

Ensures restrooms are clean, sanitary, and properly stocked with paper products at all times.

 

Gathers and carries containers from locations along route and dumps refuse from containers onto truck.

 

Cleans grounds and removes litter.

 

Power washes pavilions, play structures and walkways etc.

 

Keeps park facilities, trails, electrical boxes, and city property painted and free of debris or graffiti.

 

Must have basic plumbing and electrical skills. 

 

Operates industrial truck to transport materials within City.

 

Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris.

 

Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs.

 

Rakes and/or bags leaves. 

 

Maintains fall surface under play structures.

 

Shovels snow from walks, biking trails, bridges, city parks, city parking lots and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises Parks Maintenance Workers and seasonal parks maintenance employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assists Parks Maintenance Supervisor and Parks Maintenance Foreman with performance appraisals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Position may require a commercial driver’s license. Arkansas Plant Board Certifications.
