We are seeking a staff accountant to join the Finance team; a motivated team player with a positive attitude and desire to add value to the department. This is a perfect opportunity for an entry level staff accountant whose enthusiasm will lead them to grow in a municipal Finance Department and apply their experiences to elevate their career.
Responsibilities
- Accounts Receivable daily functions for the City to include:
o Assist with daily cash reconciliations, receipt postings, and general ledger entries;
o Deposit incoming checks from various departments and outside vendors;
- Accounts Payable daily functions for the City to include:
o Adding new vendors/entering vendor invoices;
o Analyzing account coding of department-entered requisitions;
o Process ACH, EFT, and credit card payments and post payments;
o Perform various general ledger account reconciliations and maintenance
o Prepare year end 1099 processes;
o Prepare journal entries;
- Related ad-hoc analysis as required by the Finance Director and other Department Heads;
- Be the first point-of-contact that citizens and employees will have with the Finance Department (in-person, telephone, and e-mail interactions); and
- A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience in general ledger accounting, accounts receivable and/or accounts payable;
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft related products;
- Experience working with integrated accounting systems;
- Experience with Munis ERP accounting software strongly preferred;
- Ability to work collaboratively with both outside billing vendors and with other departments on related projects;
- Willingness to learn new things and keep a positive attitude;
- Ability to think independently to work out problems; and
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
