Job Description
This position is responsible for performing technical work related to management of trees.
Examples of Duties
- Performs maintenance of trees including planting, pruning, tree removal and other maintenance utilizing a variety of forestry maintenance tools and equipment.
- Addresses any hazards as appropriate; informs supervisor of issues/complaints as needed.
- Compiles data to update the city’s tree inventory database.
- Performs surveys and maintains records and performs lab related work for the management of Dutch Elm disease.
- Maintains and services a variety of equipment.
- Operates power equipment, hand tools and selected machinery
- Assists in snow removal operations during snow events.
- Attends required training classes.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or GED. Ability to read and write. Must have the ability to do considerable walking, heavy lifting, reaching, bending.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with work associated with manual labor, equipment operation, landscaping or general forestry work.
- Qualifications for grade increase from Grade 12 to Grade 13 for Forestry Technician II.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsement issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, obtained within six months of employment.

- Ability to learn and put into practice safety standards and practices associated with arboriculture
- Skill in the operation of applicable hand and mechanical tools and related equipment.
- Skill in communication, interpersonal skill as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to provide and/or receive work direction.
- Skill in the collection of data.
