Primary Objective
The Bloomington Police Department (BPD) is seeking an individual to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Office of the Chief of Police and Command Staff by providing a high level of customer service and confidential executive support to the Chief of Police and respective Command Staff.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Ensures the effective and efficient operation of the Office of the Chief of Police and respective Command Staff by providing a high level of direct support, which includes working directly with department and city staff, as well as the public
- Apply strong organizational skills to support the timely flow of information and appropriate follow-up on a wide variety of daily tasks and special projects that originate from the Office of the Chief of Police and respective Command Staff Bureaus
- Supports the Chief of Police and respective Command Staff by attending meetings, taking notes, preparing, and distributing talking points and summaries, etc. Helps coordinate meeting schedules, track progress, and ensure necessary follow-up
- Apply general knowledge of the MN Government Data Practices Act and works closely with the Data Release Coordinator in providing timely responses to the public’s request for City data and records
- When required, work closely with staff that oversee grants and agreements by processing such through legal review and, if needed, all city council processes, until final executed copies are properly distributed
- Draft or edit a variety of correspondence and confidential documents to include memorandums, reports, internal affair investigations, and agendas using standard office software
- Responds to inquiries, requests, and complaints from members of the public, organizational partners, and City staff in an accurate and professional manner
- Performs common administrative support duties such as filing, copying, opening/distributing mail, coding invoices, scheduling meetings and arranging for and processing all travel needs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
- Work closely with the Administrative Assistant regarding:
2) Reviewing and submittal of daily bulletins and administrative announcements
3) The production of a weekly publication to the city council and staff
4) Coordination/setup/tear down of internal ceremonies and programs
- The drafting of an internal newsletter typically on a bi-monthly basis
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned
- Ability to balance competing demands and successfully prioritize work tasks, including working independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point, with the ability to learn additional software programs/applications required for use by other internal city processes
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to read and effectively summarize material, accurately proofread written documents, and finalize drafts for distribution
- Knowledge of and ability to speak proper English and utilize such in written documentation
- Ability to apply good judgement, make decisions where appropriate and anticipate and initiate next steps
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; to act and share information with discretion
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two-year college degree or certification in business administration, office management or related field and five years of progressively responsible office/administrative experience OR eight years of experience providing administrative support and coordination in a comparable setting
- Additional years of related experience
- Additional experience working in a Law Enforcement environment or multi-divisional agency
- Ability to work closely with the Chief of Police and Command Staff, offering organizational support required in meeting daily tasks and deadlines that arise

Anticipated Hiring Range: $35.38 – $37.55 Hourly
2025 Full Salary Range: $35.38 - $47.18 Hourly
