Position Summary

The Director of IT reports to the Assistant City Administrator. They manage a team of 6 staff members and oversee a $1M department budget.

  • Develop strong working relationships with the City Manager's Office, IT staff, and all city departments. Learn the operations and needs of each business unit within the City.
  • Coordinate and evaluate all services and consult with users to determine strategic ways to improve the efficient and effective use of information technology on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain standards for hardware, software, and communications throughout the City; responsible for the implementation, support and maintenance of hardware and licensed packaged applications from vendors.
  • Remain current on data security trends and techniques; educate end users on social engineering and implement technologies and methods to enhance overall network and data security.
  • Oversee department initiatives, providing direction and project management leadership as required.
  • Oversee trouble-shooting and support on information technology systems within the organization.
  • Represent the Information Technology Department to elected officials, City personnel and outside agencies.
  • Manage department operations, including supervising staff and developing the department budget following City guidelines and policies.

Position Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 7-10 years of supervisory experience in information systems and technology, including demonstrated experience with improving customer service, upgrading key systems, addressing cybersecurity in a complex environment with multiple lines of business, supporting a digital workforce, and developing a culture of service and partnership with departments. Local government IT experience is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of contemporary information technology methods and strategies, including client-server systems, virtual server technologies, software/platform/infrastructure as a service systems, PC-based systems, and mobile devices.
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
  • Ability to work effectively in a wide variety of governmental disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines, including a high level of organization and attention to detail.

Compensation will be highly competitive depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. The City offers a competitive benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, a wellness program, paid vacation and sick leave, and generous retirement program.

Salary : $100,464 - $155,709
