Provides support to community programs, volunteers, and the public to promote and facilitate invasive plant removal projects. Trains and supervises volunteers to ensure the successful and safe completion of service opportunities. Works independently under general supervision within established guidelines and procedures.
The position works 12 to 15 hours a week for up to 120 days.
Coordinates with department staff to promote community education and volunteer programs through social and print media, including the development of web page announcements, flyers, brochures, newsletters, and annual reports. Develops, coordinates, and implements community educational programs that engage the public in invasive species-focused stewardship events. Works with department staff and volunteers to develop, schedule, and guide volunteer events to remove invasive species. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be 18 years of age and older. Requires education and/or experience to attain the following: Two years of experience in general administrative and clerical support, and graduation from high school or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Ability to operate hand and power tools in a safe manner; uneven terrain while carrying tools and equipment; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation. Two years of post-secondary education in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Botany, Weed Science, or related fields. Basic knowledge or experience in event planning, graphic design, and/or facility maintenance practices. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs. Also the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. The noise level is occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, touch and feel. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to mechanical, electrical hazards. May come in contact with dogs, spiders, and snakes.
