Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision, to coordinate and administer the One Day Volunteer Projects for the Parks and Recreation Department, and to perform related duties as required.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates Parks and Recreation One Day Project volunteer recruitment, training, and placement. This includes the following:
- Recruits, interviews, places, schedules, and tracks volunteers.
- Coordinates and/or conducts training sessions for volunteers.
- Assists staff in volunteer job development.
- Assists supervisors in developing volunteer job descriptions.
- Coordinates selection of volunteers for special events as necessary.
- Supervises volunteers as necessary.
- Defines and standardizes policies related to volunteers.
2. Administers Parks and Recreation One Day Volunteer Projects. This includes the following:
- Assesses volunteer needs and defines and implements policy changes for program as necessary.
- Coordinates program publicity. Oversees and produces related brochures and flyers.
- Maintains related records, monitors statistics, and oversees volunteer budget.
- Trains and orients staff to the supervision of volunteers.
- Evaluates volunteer program and makes recommendations as necessary.
- Coordinates volunteer program appreciation events.
3. Coordinate management of projects with Seasonal Volunteer Specialist: This includes the following:
- Ensuring each volunteer project is properly staffed
- Gathering and inputting volunteer attendance, outcomes, and feedback
- Prioritizing projects across the department
4. Serve on the City-wide Volunteer Cooperative. Collaborate with other volunteer managers across the City, and provide thought leadership on Volunteer Policies, Procedures, Structure, and Recognition.
5. Acts as an advocate for volunteers. Develops and administers volunteer recognition benefits and programs.
6. Makes public presentations regarding program and volunteer management.
7. Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the City.
7. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree and experience in organizing and managing volunteer programs or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in directing and supervising volunteers.
- Previous training and experience in recruiting volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal, interviewing, and assessment skills.
- Courteous and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability or experience in making public presentations.
- Experience developing volunteer public information pieces such as, flyers, newsletters and brochures.
- Experience coordinating volunteer appreciation events and developing volunteer appreciation programs.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Must provide own means of transportation (mileage will be reimbursed according to City policy).
- Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Volunteer experience in parks, environmental and wildlife management projects.
- Experience coordinating environmental and wildlife management volunteer projects.
- Experience coordinating and supervising volunteer projects in natural areas that involve equipment operation, application of approved chemicals, habitat improvement, weed pulling, and planting of trees, and grasses.
- Experience coordinating special events.
- Knowledge of Boulder community resources.
- Experience developing volunteer management policies.
- Experience working in a municipal Parks and Recreation setting.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree and experience in organizing and managing volunteer programs or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
