To plan, organize, promote, implement, and supervise a defined community services program within the City; perform related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Community Services Coordinator
This is a broad part-time classification used to provide first line staff and program supervision and is assigned to one or more specialized services and / or programs such as, but not limited to : Athletics, Aquatics, Day Camp, Theatre and Tiny Tots. It is distinguished from other part-time classifications in that incumbents are expected to have specialized knowledge and extensive experience in the assigned program area and will be responsible for immediate program supervision. Incumbents may be assigned year-round or seasonally.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Community Services Coordinator
General supervision is provided by a Community Services Specialist, Community Services Supervisor or higher level personnel.
Exercises direct supervision over subordinate Community Services staff.
Examples of Duties
Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following : (These functions may not be present in all positions in this classification. Within established guidelines, plan, organize, supervise, promote, deliver and evaluate a defined community services program or service.
Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff and volunteers; provide input on personnel related decisions.
Coordinate, monitor, secure and direct the proper and safe use of program facilities.
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of program budget(s) and program goals.
Assist in and recommend purchase of equipment and supplies for assigned program, maintain equipment and inventory records.
Prepare, coordinate and distribute program and publicity information.
Provide information and assist the general public.
Prepare and present written and oral reports as required.
Operate specialized equipment necessary for program delivery.
Perform related duties, as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Experience and Education
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.
A typical combination is :
Experience
Three years of part-time, or three summers of full-time increasingly responsible experience in the planning, supervision and implementation of a recreational or community-based program or a related program area or service, including some supervisory experience.
Education
Equivalent to the completion of one year of college level course work in recreation, early childhood education, or a related field.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Phase One - Application Review : The first phase of the selection process shall be a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate's application. Those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of education and experience, as submitted, may be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process. No weight shall be assigned to this phase of the selection process.
Phase Two - Oral Appraisal Interview : Candidates who receive a minimum score of 70% on this phase shall have their name placed on the Eligibility List for Community Services Coordinator Eligibility Lists are generally valid for one year. Once the list is established, the Community Services Department may conduct follow-up assessments.

The City of Brea offers a generous benefit package for eligible employees for the Part-time Employment and Benefits Policy members, including :
SALARY RANGE : Composed of seven (7) steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance.
RETIREMENT : In lieu of a social security contribution, all part-time regular and part-time intermittent employees that are not in the CalPERS retirement system must participate in the City's 457 deferred compensation program. The mandatory minimum contribution is seven and a half percent (7.5%).
HEALTH INSURANCE : Certain part-time employees may be eligible to participate in the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA) Program for medical insurance. To be eligible, employees must meet CalPERS PEMHCA requirements (e.g., must work at least half-time and have a permanent appointment or a "limited term" appointment with a duration of more than six months.) Effective January 1, 2024, the City's contribution toward CalPERS health insurance premiums for these eligible and participating part-time employees shall be $157 per month.
GROUP INSURANCE PROGRAMS : Part-time regular employees may participate in the City's dental, vision, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for medical / dependent programs, short term disability, critical illness, cancer, accident or pet insurances.
BILINGUAL PAY : $0.58 per hour for eligible languages in addition to English.
HOLIDAYS : Part-time regular employees shall be paid four (4) hours for regularly scheduled work days any of the holidays listed in their employment and benefits policy.
GENERAL LEAVE : Part-time Regular / Intermittent employees may earn and / or accrue vacation and sick leave time based on their employment and benefits policy.
