DEFINITION
Responsible for the supervision and administration of the programs, operations and staffing at the Eagle View Adult Center (EVAC). Oversees general center operations while providing excellent, respectful, and inclusive customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Recreation.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Coordinate the organization, staffing and operational activities for EVAC for both recreation programs and senior services.
Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all staff assigned to EVAC.
Recruits and directs volunteer program at Eagle View. Coordinates volunteer recognition programs. Develops publications for programs.
Refers volunteers to other community opportunities for involvement.
Establishes operational procedures and trains employees and volunteers in methods of EVAC operations.
Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for EVAC.
Participates in the development and administration of EVAC budget. Directs the monitoring of and the approval of expenditures.
Maintains current records and prepares requested reports or other correspondence for programs and services.
Maintains current inventory of all equipment at EVAC.
Meets monthly with the Senior Advisory Board and performs staff assistance pertaining to their requests. Oversees bookkeeper, prepares reports, submits reports for IRS filing and Secretary of State.
Coordinates fund raising events in coordination with the Senior Advisory Board.
Coordinate the Eagle View service programs including the nutrition site, health clinic and outreach programs with the appropriate outside agencies and organizations. Administers service contracts when appropriate.
Coordinates facility rentals and schedules staffing for coverage.
Coordinates facility and outside ground maintenance with proper City departments.
Organizes workshops, clinics and in-service training programs for staff, instructors and/or volunteers.
Assists the Senior Recreation Coordinators with special events and other recreational activities as needed. Develops new programs or services as needed.
Assists with the set up and take down of tables, chairs and audio/visual equipment for classes, special events and activities as needed.
Keeps abreast of alternative funding sources and writes grants to secure additional funds for staffing, services or programs or equivalent. Submit reports as required.
Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation in issues pertaining to EVAC.
Shall be familiar with and promote the aims and objectives, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the City of Brighton.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Schedules and meets regularly with staff for planning and evaluating the Center’s operations.
Meets regularly with other City departments.
Assists with community special events when requested.
Networks with other professional and community groups to share ideas, co-sponsor events, promote senior programs and increase job knowledge through meetings, workshops and conferences.
Prepare and deliver oral presentations to community groups.
Participate in long range and strategic planning of EVAC services and programs including web content & media content.
Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new or on-going EVAC programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Physical, social, mental, and emotional changes that occur with aging.
Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a multipurpose senior center
How to access community resources.
Procedures for developing and implementing a variety of senior citizen programs and services.
Multi-phase recreational, social and cultural programs for senior citizens.
Recreational, cultural, and social needs of senior citizens in the Brighton community.
Municipal budget preparation and control.
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Written and oral communication skills.
Ability to:
Select, train, supervise and discipline subordinates.
Assume full management responsibility for Eagle View.
Manage and coordinate the work of support staff and volunteers.
Interpret and explain EVAC recreational, social, and service policies and procedures.
Participate in long range and strategic planning for EVAC services and programs.
Monitor program compliance with related laws and regulations.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups and the public.
Effectively use good customer service skills.
Make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.
Drive a van.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, gerontology, or related field preferred. A minimum
of four years of experience in coordinating and administering senior citizen recreation programs, two years of supervision experience. Equivalent education and experience considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work in various weather conditions.
Ability to perform moderate physical work, to lift 25 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull and perform similar body movements.
Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate office equipment including a computer terminal and operate a vehicle; ability to talk and hear in person and by telephone.
Ability to see and read instructions, manuals, characters on a computer screen, and observe volunteer work programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Colorado driver’s license with safe driving record.
Current certification in CPR and First Aid
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
