What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Recreation Leader position at City of Brooklyn Center?
This position will work with co-leaders to plan and implement outdoor and indoor age appropriate weekly arts and crafts, games and activities for youth ages 6 - 13.
The Recreation on the Go (ROTG) van will be pulling into neighborhood parks, providing recreation. ROTG staff will set up activities and equipment for youth and teens. You will be off-site for this position.
- Work as a team with co-leaders to plan and implement outdoor and indoor age appropriate weekly arts and crafts, games and activities for youth ages 6 – 13. Prepare and submit for approval weekly program plans
- Create a welcoming, fun, supportive, supervised and safe environment for participants at all times
- Supervise, lead, and set a positive example for youth in summer programs
- Coordinate set up, take down and use of program equipment and materials
- Be prompt and prepared. Every program day will start and end on time
- Keep accurate records of daily attendance, accident reports and discipline reports
- Maintain order and discipline while conducting activities
- Administer basic first aid as needed
- Communicate and problem solve with program supervisor, coordinator, co-workers, parents and participants
- Attend training and be available for all program dates and meetings
- Follow the City of Brooklyn Center policies and procedures
- Have a genuine interest in working with youth and working as a team with co-leaders
- Ability to lead a group of youth independently, under limited supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask and think quickly and creatively
- Ability to adapt and modify program plans as needed
- Must possess good judgement and decision making skills
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to have respectful and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, participants and parents
- Applicant must be able to stand, talk, write, hear, balance, run, sit, kick, kneel, throw, and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Applicant must independently get to program location
Desired Qualifications:
- Two to four years working or volunteering with youth ages 6 - 13
- Experience working with youth in a structured and/or recreational setting
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Course work in elementary education, child development, recreation programming, social work or related field
- First Aid/CPR Certification
Program/Dates/Hours:
- Mandatory Training: June 9th - 10th.
- Camp in the Center: M-Th 7:45 a.m.- 4:45 p.m., June 16th - August 18th.
- Rec on the Go: Mon. & Wed. 10 a.m. - 7 p.m, Tues & Thurs. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., June 16th - August 18th.
