The City of Brooklyn Park's Economic Development & Housing team is seeking a motivated, creative, and community minded individual to be its new Intern. The successful candidate will strive for professional growth, contribute to a skilled team, and demonstrate a passion for serving the community.

The Intern will work with the Economic Development & Housing team, a motivated and active staff, and learn how development and redevelopment is done in a large suburban city. The Intern will have the opportunity to assist on several projects including creating marketing materials for various business and housing programs, gathering data about housing in the City, assisting on development projects, researching emerging issues or trends in the Community and Economic Development field, and creating plans and ideas for events geared toward the City's business community. The Intern's work can vary based on their particular interests, including various aspects of housing, business development, planning, research and analysis, and/or program administration.
Currently enrolled, or recently graduated from, either part time or fulltime, undergraduate or graduate level studies
OR
High school graduate or equivalent and significant work history
Experience
Experience with Microsoft Office programs and applications
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). - Creation of marketing materials and event planning for programs and events in collaboration with the City’s Communication’s team
- Support project staff by researching topics and analyzing data
- Support the implementation of small business programs
- Support various housing, redevelopment, and business development activities
- Contribute to projects that support the accomplishment of larger City goals
- Participate in various projects within the Economic Development and Planning divisions as needed and per the interest of the Intern

- Current graduate or undergraduate level studies (or recent graduate) in Brooklyn Park
- Current involvement in community development or civic organizations and activities
- Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian, or Vietnamese language(s)
