PAY: $14.55 per hour (Returning for 2nd year - $14.80 per hour)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a part-time seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week during the spring and summer, and less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. Position is responsible for record keeping, delegating daily duties, chemical and water testing. Position is responsible for constant observance of various age groups for swimming in the pool; to control the public in the use of the pool facilities; to administer lifesaving techniques and first aid in case of accidents or emergencies around pool areas; to call for additional assistance immediately when necessary. Responsible for keeping the restrooms and pool area clean according to health regulations. Responsible for using standard pool operation procedures. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Will constantly observe participants in the pool; 2) Will watch for water safety and enforce all safety rules in and out of the water; 3) Will keep all areas of the pool and restroom areas clean; 4) Will administer first aid and respond immediately to call for assistance in case of accidents or emergencies in and around the pool area and the premises; 5) Pool Manager or person designated by Recreation Supervisor will be responsible for taking regular interval readings of chlorine and PH levels and check necessary equipment for sanitation of pools; 6) Mow, weed-eat, and rake lawn; 7) Must conduct and document weekly in service Lifeguard training; 8) Perform other duties as assigned by recreation supervisor.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED:
Pool Manager will be responsible for the supervision of the lifeguards on duty.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Outdoors: exposed to sun and water the majority of the time. Work is pleasant most of the time. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally and be able to drag up to 80 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, and sweep. Ability to operate a lawn mower and weed-eater. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, and cutting grass. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Constant contact with other lifeguards and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have enough education to at least read and write.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of lifesaving techniques; ability and skills in swimming; knowledge of basic first aid procedures; knowledge of handling chemicals for swimming pools. Good communication skills, tactfulness, and discretion with lifeguards and general public are required. Good Supervisory/Managerial Skills are required.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Current Texas driver license; Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid Certification preferred. Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification is required; Red Cross Lifeguard Management Certification and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification preferred, but not required. WSI Certification preferred.
