Pay: $2,805 per month / $16.18 per hour
Post-Probation: $2,889 per month / $16.67 per hour
Immediate Supervisor: Landfill Operator IV
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs manual work involved in the daily collection of litter, garbage, refuse and brush from the Rights of Way leading to the landfill. Mow and trim weeds within the facility and at entrance. Pick-up wind-blown litter in and around the landfill as may be required by the landfill permit. Time permitting performs other manual labor as required for the maintenance, operation and construction of the landfill/recycling center. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Collect litter from the Rights Of Way (ROW) of major routes leading to the landfill; 2) Operate a utility vehicle; 3) Under general supervision install or repair litter fence as required; 4) Perform daily vehicle maintenance; 5) Under supervision install and maintain drainage structures; 6) Operate mowers and weed trimmers as required; 7) Process recyclables in the recycling center as needed; 8) Assist Heavy Equipment Operators in cleaning and washing of equipment; 9) Relieves Recycling Center Attendant or other positions as assigned; 10) Uses power tools; 11) General cleanup of grounds and buildings at landfill facilities; 12) Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Outdoors, unpleasant work in adverse weather, noise, odors, and dirty conditions. Strenuous work requires moderate to heavy physical activity; requires getting on and off vehicle frequently. Some of the hazards exposed to are bad weather, machinery, chemicals, items placed in containers and working around electrical lines. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 80 pounds frequently. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep, and dig. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting trees and limbs. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Occasionally required to work more than 40 hours per week and on holidays and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred; experience desirable but not required, on the job training will be provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Physical ability to work in extreme weather conditions; ability to operate light equipment on daily basis; the ability to learn operational procedures of the landfill and recycling center; ability to operate power tools.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Valid Texas Driver License. Obtain a TCEQ Waste Screening Certification within two years.
