Post-Probation Pay: $3,336.00 per month / $19.25 per hour
Immediate Supervisor: Operator IV
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This person will perform operational duties utilizing various pieces of equipment throughout the Landfill including but not limited to a dozer, loader, motor grader, compactor, articulated dump truck, backhoe, skid steer, roll-off truck, recycling equipment and other equipment as needed. Will perform various duties at the recycling center such as directing customers, clerical work, collecting fee’s, segregating waste, and recyclables accordingly, and processing materials. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Spread and/or compact refuse with compactor; 2) Cover portions of the cell as necessary with daily or intermediate cover using haul truck; 3) Use dozer to rip rock, clear vegetation, and spread wood chips within landfill; ; 4) Perform manual labor as needed, to include use of hand and power tools 5) Maintain compliance with applicable Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations; 6) Recover refrigerants from white goods in accordance with EPA and TCEQ regulations;; 7) Preform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment as well as minor repairs; 8) Assist in extinguishing fires; 9) Collect fees as necessary and direct vehicles to unloading areas; 10) Read and understand grade settings: 11) Emptying dumpster utilizing a roll-off truck;12) All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Outdoors mostly, with adverse weather conditions. Ability to transport self from site to site. Will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and lifting to perform duties of the job. Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, where extreme hazards exist while performing duties. Employee is frequently required to perform lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 80 pounds. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water and mud. Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven and sloped surfaces. Hazards exposed to are heavy equipment, recycling equipment, fires, household hazardous waste, putrescible waste, automotive waste and private vehicular traffic, possible exposure to refrigerants.

Heavy contact in dealing with the public and other employees daily.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate. Ability to read and write and follow verbal and written instructions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability and skill to operate heavy equipment and trucks safely and efficiently; possess good driving skills; possess mechanical abilities to perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Ability to perform manual labor and use hand and power tools.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Must possess valid Texas Driver License. Obtain a TCEQ Waste Screening Certification within 2 years.
