Pay: Entry Rate: $2,976 per month / $17.17 per hour
Post 6-Month Probation: $3,065 per month / $17.68 per hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time (40 hour per week) position. Responsible to the Municipal Court Supervisor for the performance of duties as prescribed by law for the Clerk of the Municipal Court. Performs considerable support in several phases of responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Municipal Court. Performs clerical and cash handling. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Answers questions from the public regarding the status of cases, complaints, or warrants; 2) Directs and/or escorts the public to courtrooms, other court supported activities and refers individuals to other jurisdictions or offices; 3) Enters appropriate information on complaints, motions, subpoenas, summons and in court records and legal case files; 4) Accepts payments of fees and fines, returns appropriate change, and issues receipts to citizens; 5) Prepares and mails form letters providing court dates, fine amounts, and general court information; 6) Creates new case files and docket entry sheets; 7) Corrects errors and adds missing information to files or documents by computer or manual methods; 8) Schedules work dates for defendants assigned to the Community Service Work Program; 9) Serves as back-up support to the Municipal Court Supervisor in docketing, citations, cash handling and balancing; 10) Operates Municipal Court computer system; 11) Prepares FTA/VPTA Warrants; 12) Other duties as assigned by the Municipal Court Supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Ability to sit, stand and move about an office or building. Employee occasionally lifts materials weighing 20 – 50 pounds or climbs in order to reach cabinets. Ability to bend and squat in order to file or retrieve information. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazards when operating/maintaining office equipment. Ability to see and handle small objects. Indoors, pleasant. Light physical activity.

Daily, frequent contact with City employees and general public in person and by telephone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent. Two years broad computer experience. Two years cash handling and balancing experience. Experience in handling confidential information.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to: Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Learn assigned clerical tasks primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, defendants, attorneys, victims, and the public, often under stressful circumstances. Must be dependable and responsible. Be able to follow instructions and perform accurate and detailed clerical operations. Ability to make decisions involving the confidentiality of information. Ability to perform work with an emphasis on detail using ingenuity, initiative and judgment. Must be flexible for daily schedule purposes. Telephone etiquette required.
