GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week and less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. A non-supervisory position with journeyman level responsibility for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of City parks, downtown allies, City buildings and landscaped areas operated by the City. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Cuts lawns and parks with power mowers; 2) Be able to operate a weed eater, blower, push broom, and spraying with a backpack rig (4 gallon); 3) Trims hedges and walkways; 4) Cleans out ditches and culverts; 5) Cleans rest rooms in parks; 6) Polices park areas and right a ways to assure they are kept clean; 7) Assists other employees in repairs and maintenance, including painting; 8) Load and haul brush and debris; 9) Drives city vehicle between work sites; 10) Performs other duties as assigned by Parks Supervisor.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to outdoors, and adverse or seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to potentially hazardous mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep and dig. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Required to work flexible hours when necessary.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Little contact with the general public; normal contact with other City employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have enough education to at least read and write.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Basic knowledge of methods, practices and materials used in park maintenance, landscaping, and general construction work; ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; ability to perform job satisfactorily without constant supervision.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Valid Texas Driver License is required except those individuals who are 16 or 17 years of age. No person under 18 years of age shall be allowed to drive a City vehicle.
