GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, oversees the daily operations of the pools, plans, organizes, and coordinates a variety of recreational aquatics programs and services; supervises and trains pool lifeguards, swim instructors and other aquatics personnel; manages pool activities on an assigned shift; applies first aid lifesaving, and swimming principles and practices; and does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a part-time, non–benefited, position for the aquatics program. The Pool Manager is differentiated from the Senior Lifeguard in that it can perform more tasks independently. This position provides supervision and training to Senior Lifeguards and other aquatics personnel. This position provides an opportunity for incumbents with an interest in pursuing a career in municipal government to learn about municipal government functions and gain experience by completing tasks and special assignments related to the program area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Manages staff in planning, organizing, and implementing aquatics programs and events for the City.
- Assigns, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates aquatics staff and other employees.
- Ensures an excellent guest experience and maintains order among pool patrons.
- Oversees plans, develops, conducts and supervises a wide variety of activities and the daily operations of aquatics programming.
- Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Takes charge of emergency situations and provides emergency care as necessary.
- Organizes and conducts weekly and annual in-service training for aquatics staff.
- Maintains program records and prepares reports as required.
- Monitors and assists with desk reception, telephone support, and other related customer service activities.
- Monitors and assists in accepting registrations and fees, processing receipts, and accounting for money.
- Monitors and assists in preparation of facilities for regular operation of recreation swim, lessons, and other daily operations.
- Monitors and patrols the swimming pool and aquatics facility including keeping a lookout for accidents in the water and pool area; warns patrons of dangerous practices with pool usage.
- Follows and enforces pool regulations and codes in an effort to prevent patron accidents.
- May perform the duties of a Sr. Lifeguard, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and Cashier as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES
Knowledge of:
Professional lifesaving standards; methods of organizing, conducting, and supervising aquatic programs; swimming pool rules and general care of children, effective customer service techniques.
Ability to:
Perform basic arithmetic; plan, organize and conduct aquatics programs to completion; maintain accurate records and prepare reports; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, participants, and the public; pass a swim test and demonstrate ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.

The employee is occasionally required to use hands to touch, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; must be able to move up to 100 pounds; may be exposed to direct sunlight, heat, wet and/or humid conditions, toxic, chlorinated water and caustic chemicals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees typically work outdoors at City recreation pools, facilities and venues; required to perform physical work.
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented with two years of college level coursework in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field. Two years of experience as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor is required. Experience in a leadership capacity is preferred. Prior experience as a Pool Manager, Assistant Pool Manager, or Senior Lifeguard with two years of experience is highly desirable.
All applicants must possess the following valid American Red Cross Certifications: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/AED, Lifesaving for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid or equivalent within 30 days of appointment.

A conditional offer of employment is based upon the successful completion of a pre-placement medical exam to determine a candidate's fitness to perform the essential functions of the position. Physicals are performed by the City's designated physician at the City's expense and may include a drug and alcohol screening.
