SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Finance/Accounting department and assists with account reconciliations, budgeting, month-end closing and annual audits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Prepares a variety of detailed accounting, statistical, and/or narrative financial statements or reports requiring analysis
- Interprets source data; conducts and/or coordinates internal/external audits of financial records; examines, analyzes, and verifies documents to ensure adherence to established internal controls and agreement as required
- Performs bank account reconciliation’s, verifies accuracy of recorded transactions; prepares related work sheets, cash balances, proofs, and other schedules and prepares daily cash flow analysis
- Supervises and reviews the work of fiscal and clerical personnel in making GL entries, reconciliations, and performing other fiscal record keeping work; makes complex or difficult adjusting entries affecting several cost centers
- Performs fund, grant accounting functions; assists with preparation of County, State, and Federal Reports. Prepares daily deposits, maintains cash ledger and completes transfers; assist in budget development, creating revenue and expenditure schedules; prepare cost accounting schedules for fee-based activities; and perform other related duties as required
- Completes month end closing, including account analysis and financial report distribution; participates in the annual closing of books and the preparation of data for the Annual Financial Report
- Assists with the annual audit by responding to questions and providing relevant materials and information; assists in monitoring budgets for various organization’s departments and projects
- Determines if funds are available and expenditures/revenues are properly classified; researches and analyzes transactions to resolve budget discrepancies.
- Assists in budget preparation; assists department personnel with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, document preparation and other accounting related activities.
- Monitor daily cash flow needs; makes sure enough funds are available to cover payroll and accounts payable checks. Tracks and post inter-account transfers and all wires both incoming and outgoing; audits investments to ensure that interest has been received and posted to the correct account(s); validates that purchases, discounts and premiums are properly posted to the correct account(s)
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, walking on sloped/hilly areas of campus, carrying, driving, lifting (up to 40 pounds), listening, speaking, reaching, writing, and participating in restraint procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- At least five years’ experience as a Sr. Accountant or Accounting Manager required
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows and Advanced MS Excel (Lookups, PivotTables, Macros, etc.) and intermediate Access skills required as well as proficiency with Word and PowerPoint
- Non-profit or Municipal accounting experience is preferred
- Experience with Financial Edge system is desirable
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft office and database management (Financial edge, Paycom a plus, etc.)
- Applicants must possess considerable knowledge of GAAP, GASB, OMB-CFR, auditing, including governmental accounting, fund accounting and budgeting
- Strong written and verbal communication and personal skills
- Must fulfill all requirements of employment, including clearance of all required background records (e.g. Department of Justice, Child Abuse, California Community Care Licensing, County Sanction List, etc.), professional, physical examination, and drug testing
Salary : $75,000 - $95,000
