What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stormfest Volunteer - Environmental Youth Engagement position at City of Burien?
Inspire the next generation of environmental stewards and motivate students to care about stormwater and their local streams! The StormFest committee is seeking applicants to support StormFest, an interactive stormwater festival for Highline Public Schools 6th grade students. We are recruiting for volunteers and Station Educators.
What is StormFest?
StormFest is a field-based stormwater learning event that engages all 6th grade students in the Highline Public Schools (HPS). At StormFest, students rotate through five hands-on education stations to learn about their local watersheds, the animals that live in them, sources of pollution, and engineering solutions to prevent stormwater pollution. Volunteer Description & Details
As a volunteer, you will help staff keep event activities on schedule, running smoothly, and fun for the 6th grade students. StormFest will happen over three days (June 10, 11, and 12) at Des Moines Beach Park.
Volunteers will be provided:
- Optional event training
- Instruction and itinerary ahead of event
- Free lunch on event days
- Free on-site parking or King County Metro bus vouchers
Commitment as a volunteer:
- Support at least one full day of the event. Event days (June 10, 11, and 12) are typically from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Optional: Attend an in-person training on June 4, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Des Moines Beach Park Auditorium to learn tips for working with students and review the event logistics. More information about training opportunities will be provided once your application is submitted.
