What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Director position at City of Burlington, WA?
The Public Works Director directs and administers public works and engineering functions for the City of Burlington and is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of streets, traffic controls, wastewater treatment plants, drainage facilities, buildings & grounds, equipment, and public works contracts. The position develops and manages the goals, objectives, and direction of the Department of Public Works as established by the City Council through the City Administrator for public works in the community. All permits and licenses for drainage, paving, site improvements, sanitary sewer service and land subdivision shall be reviewed and approved by the Public Works Director. The position is also responsible for flood and emergency service plans, directions, and interagency leadership, budgets and capital improvement plans, assistance on economic development, engineering, and public works plan reviews, and serving as a resource to the Mayor, Council, City Administrator, and City staff.

Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED. • Minimum of two years post high school education in Engineering, Public Works Administration, or a scientifically related field. A four-year bachelor's degree or higher is preferred. • Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience in management and engineering or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge, and ability necessary to perform the work. • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Washington preferred. • Valid Washington State driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier required. • Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient with the current version of Microsoft Office 365 suite. • Successful completion of a pre-employment background and criminal history check.
