Job Description
An employee in this position performs work to support the Engineering Department and its staff. The position may be used as part of an internship program with a college, university, or high school.
Examples of Work: Receives training and performs duties in support of the Engineering Department. Specific tasks and responsibilities will be determined by the intern’s supervisor and the needs of the department. The intern will be asked to perform, participate in, and observe activities relevant to the department. Activities vary by division but may include assisting with projects, research, preparation of reports, inter-office communication, attending meetings and events, and general office tasks. Performs related work as required.
Participation Requirements: Students who are selected for the program are required to meet the below minimum requirements to remain an intern. If they fail to adhere to these standards, the students may be dismissed from the program.

Be advised that candidates may be subjected to a drug test. Accordingly, eligibility is not considered final until drug testing has been successfully completed with a negative result.

- Maintains records in an organized manner and in accordance with department rules and policies
- Researches, studies, and files records as needed
- Coordinates and communicates with management staff daily regarding the status of projects and assignments
- Assist in the office or in the field with various projects related to traffic or civil engineering
- Become familiar with the City street system
- Utilize relevant engineering/drafting tools
- Review maps and plans
- At least 16 years of age
- Must be one of the following:
- Current enrollment in high school (or recent graduate) with an interest in civil engineering OR
- Current enrollment in college/university in civil engineering, traffic engineering, computer science, or related field.
- Strong communication skills both written and orally. Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Competent with use of a computer and basic comprehension of Office Suite products.
