The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs repairs and maintenance on municipal owned structures, involving electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance work, and assists other departments as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs building maintenance and repair work, such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, painting, mechanical work, and other manual duties as needed at any of the City’s municipally owned structures.
- Inspects structures and facilities, evaluating work needed and determining the best method for completing maintenance and repairs.
- Calculates material and/or labor costs, preparing and processing purchase orders for parts and supplies to complete work orders.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Assists other departments as assigned; and
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
- High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance, or a related field.
- Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid Texas Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
Knowledge of: general construction; routine building maintenance and repair; building materials; structural, plumbing, electrical, & mechanical systems.
Skill/Ability to: organize preventive maintenance programs; apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures needed to complete routine building maintenance and equipment repairs; operate and repair power tools and small equipment; interpret blueprints; establish and maintain effective working relationships with local and state government officials and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; work effectively on several projects simultaneously; be proactive with facility maintenance; maintain accurate records; and react to emergency situations efficiently. Ability to lift to 75 lbs.
