The City of Chandler is seeking motivated and creative Digital Media Specialists (3) to join our 2024 Rocky Mountain Emmy winning communications team. These positions are part-time, temporary, non-benefited and serve at the pleasure of the department director. These positions are scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule.

These positions are housed in the Video Division within the City of Chandler’s Communications and Public Affairs Department. The Digital Media Division is committed to connecting the community and the city; learning about everything Chandler has to offer through the diverse experiences, voices and photos of our Chandler community. Are you passionate about storytelling and eager to dive into the world of multimedia journalism and mass communications?
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in news reporting, script writing, on-air talent, videography, editing, photography and podcast production. As an intern, you will work closely with our team to produce engaging news packages and digital media content that showcase your skills and contribute to our community’s awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Story Discovery and Pitching: Identify and research potential news stories relevant to the City of Chandler. Pitch your story ideas to the Communications team for approval.
- News Package Production: Once your story is assigned, take ownership of producing a complete news package. This includes researching, scripting, filming, still photography and editing.
- Script Writing: Develop clear, compelling scripts for news segments that effectively communicate the story to our audience.
- Create engaging descriptions of your video content to use as captions and in blog posts.
- Videography and Editing: Operate professional video equipment to capture high-quality footage. Edit video content on Adobe Premier to create polished and engaging news segments and digital content.
- Still photography for events and marketing using professional cameras.
- Podcast: Produce content for the Voices of Chandler podcast
- On-Air Talent: Gain experience as an on-air reporter, presenting news stories with confidence and professionalism.
- Collaboration: Work with the Digital Media Communications team to ensure your content aligns with department goals and community interests.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; and
- Six (6) months of experience with digital media photography; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
