Support the Department of Public Works in their mission to provide professional public works services to manage natural and built systems, and foster community health, safety, and sustainability. This position is in the Facilities Maintenance Division and assigned to the Structural Crew.
This position may be filled as a Building Trades II or Building Trades III, depending on qualifications. The preferred hiring ranges for this position is as follows:- Building Trades II: $18.50 - $21.50 Hourly ($38,480.00 - $44,720.00 Annually)
- Building Trades III: $20.50 - $22.35 Hourly ($42,640.00 - $46,488.00 Annually)

A Building Trades III performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair and installation of general building components, fixtures and equipment to include commercial carpentry, plumbing, doors/door hardware, mechanical components, and painting/general maintenance for City and School facilities. Primarily and most frequently this position works independently in the related functional areas and performs more advanced applications.
Duties include:
- Investigating complaints and providing follow-up with appropriate personnel.
- Recognizes and addresses, as needed, unsafe conditions as discovered in the course of work.
- General building maintenance and repair work, including preventative maintenance.
- Installing, inspecting, maintaining, and making general repairs to roofing, gutters, waterproofing, sealants, masonry, concrete, and other architectural building components.
- Installing, inspecting, maintaining, and making general repairs to doors, frames and hardware; ceiling systems; flooring and floor finishes; windows; walls and wall finishes; building fixtures; millwork, casework and accessories.
- Installing, inspecting, maintaining and making general repairs to plumbing fixtures and hardware.
- Maintaining records of work performed.
- Performing other related tasks.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma/GED. (If no diploma or GED, minimally must be literate and have completed education through the fifth grade with seven years of work experience.)
- At least one year of experience in two of the three major trades (carpentry, plumbing, and painting/general maintenance) with demonstrated ability to perform general building maintenance.

- Satisfactory health condition in order to meet the physical requirements of the job.
Building Trades III Minimum Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma.
- At least three to five years of experience in two of the four major trades (carpentry, plumbing, painting/general maintenance, and commercial door hardware/access control) with demonstrated ability to perform general building maintenance.

- Satisfactory health condition in order to meet the physical requirements of the job.
Physical tasks may include walking on uneven or rough surfaces; bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; working on roof tops; climbing a 10 foot ladder; performing repairs and maintenance from a 10 foot ladder; lifting and carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds.
Position may require employees to work a flexible schedule including evening and/or weekends. This position is subject to supporting weather and/or other emergency events and is subject to standby or on-call.
