What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Groundworker (1000 Hours) position at City of Chaska?
This position assists as directed to all employees of the Chaska Electric department, under the supervision of the Electric Foreperson.
- Assists with street light repairs when scheduled for routine maintenance as well as reported outages or other problems
- Participates in overhead and underground construction
- Maintains equipment, tools and supplies needed for line work
- Performs reading of meters, as assigned
- Provides on-going assistance with tree cutting and trimming
- Promotes quality customer relations, acknowledging any concerns and bringing them to the Foreperson for resolution
- Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned
Education
- High school diploma or G.E.D
- Line school diploma
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Valid MN Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements
- Working towards or interested in electric related field (preferred)
EQUIPMENT USED
- City trucks and trailers
- Hand tools including saw, chainsaw, weed whip, drill, crimper, etc.
- Meter reading equipment
- Computer & iPad

Physical Demands

- Varying and some prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, observing, identifying colors, climbing, balancing, and lifting, carrying and moving objects 80 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Driving to and from work sites
- Working outside in all seasons with varying levels of exposure to wind, rain, snow, ice, sun
- Working within confines of both underground and overhead electrical system structures and construction sites including energized conductors
