Job Description
The City of Chesapeake, Virginia Planning Department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated planning professional to join our Comprehensive Planning team. This position supports long-term planning activities within the City, primarily focused on the implementation of comprehensive planning documents, project management, coalition and consensus building, as facilitating the City’s open space and preservation program. Overall, this position plays a vital role in shaping the future of the City of Chesapeake and is instrumental in making the City an exceptional place to live, learn, work, farm, and play!
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience with comprehensive and small area plan development, familiarity with the public hearing process, and demonstrated leadership characteristics are preferred.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENTS: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in planning or closely related field.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three years of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES: Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
