Hours: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
Winter: Monday-Friday
Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Water Meter Reader is the job for YOU!
Essential responsibilities of the Water Meter Technician:
- Water Meter (Reader) Technician performs physically demanding work reading meters.
- Read water meters on assigned routes and enter readings into the handheld computer.
- Assists in the scrubbing of readings both before and after billing. Including rereading, locating, unburying, and removing water/debris.
- Water Meter Technician must have the ability to walk over 10 miles per day with constant bending and kneeling in all kind of weather.
- Must be able to visually read meters accurately that may be flooded, muddy, scratched, and cloudy, etc.
- Must have the ability to lift meter box lids that may weigh up to 15 lbs. and drive a vehicle.
- The candidate for Water Meter Technician should have problem-solving skills for unexpected incidents which may occur while reading meters.
- Equipment used includes a city vehicle, handheld computer, screwdriver/pry bar, pump, 2-way radio, sight tube, and small hand trowel.
- Candidates may encounter dogs, bees, snakes, spiders, etc.
SOME SATURDAYS WILL BE REQUIRED.
EMPLOYEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND DURING SEVERE/INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS, OTHER EMERGENCIES, OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS DECLARED BY THE DIRECTOR.

Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Outstanding customer service skills are necessary.
