Aquatics Foreman Maintenance
JOB TITLE: Aquatics Foreman Maintenance
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Director of Aquatics
SALARY: $48,096 to $57,715 Annually
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, ensures the maintenance and cleanliness of the Aquatic facilities by monitoring, scheduling, and correcting all issues reported and/or found.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor program compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations related to the provision of aquatic related services. Maintain a thorough awareness of new developments in the field of aquatics; incorporate new developments as appropriate into aquatic safety, maintenance, and staffing.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations for aquatic management.
- Basic operations, services and activities of municipal aquatic facilities maintenance, safety, and staffing. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation for part time maintenance staff.
- Basic procedures, methods and techniques of budget preparation and control. Basic work processing computer programs. Prepare and administer aquatic program budgets. Allocate limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations.
- Recent developments, current literature and information related to aquatic facilities maintenance/staffing.
- Supervise, organize, train, and evaluate the work of part time maintenance/lifeguard staff. Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and direct aquatic programs suited to the community.
- Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing aquatic recreation programs. Elicit community and organizational support for aquatic programs.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external partners and staff.
- Skills to select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains pool chemistry and circulation at proper levels. Responsible for pool heater/boiler maintenance and operation.
- Performs water tests, calibrates automation, and trains designated staff in procedures.
- Inspects and maintains chemical feed system; pool fittings, hardware; pool covers; water slides; play features; climbing wall; and diving board. Checks pumps and motors. Performs monthly facility safety inspections.
- Handles all pool chemicals safely and assuring proper personal protective equipment is used always. Establishes and coordinates an annual preventative maintenance program for the city’s pool facilities.

- Serves as a technical advisor regarding the State Health Department and requirements for pools and advises Aquatics Coordinator on required corrections. Monitor maintenance and general safety in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations related to the provision of the Aquatic Division.
- Participates in the development of the operating and capital improvement budgets and estimates material and labor cost figures for pool operation, construction, and maintenance.
- Maintains pool plans, technical specifications, and other maintenance or construction history on all pools.
- Orders supplies, conducts inventories, and maintains purchase records, including merchandise inventory.
- Maintains aquatic buildings to include general janitorial responsibilities for showers and locker rooms. Maintains aquatic grounds to include general maintenance, trash pickup, deck maintenance, and power washing of buildings as necessary.
- Ability to lead and direct the recreational operation and services of the Cheyenne Aquatic centers.
- Ability to monitor and remedy unsafe conditions, respond to emergency situations, and maintain accident and incident reports on behalf of the city.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Work with chemicals or similar solutions such as liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, and sodium bicarbonate using personal protective equipment.
- Knowledge of operation, repair and maintenance of swimming pools, equipment, and facilities.
- Understanding of hazards and safety precautions applicable to pool maintenance.
- Knowledge of chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing. Current pool maintenance codes and regulations.
- Perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as when working with electrical wires or water testing color comparators.
- Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Aquatic staff, contractors, citizen.
- Groups and the public.
- Operate computer and application software for maintenance and project management programs.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Climb ladders or steps, such as getting onto roofs and into sump pits.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.
- Move objects weighing 50 pounds or more long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Operate power driving construction tools and equipment.
- Work independently in the absence of a supervisor.
- Obtain and maintain a current Lifeguard, First-Aid, and CPR/AED certification.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
- Swimming requirements to maintain lifeguard certification and skills.
- General lifting of no more than 50lbs with assistance of other employees.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders to elevated guard chairs.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Required:
High school diploma or GED required. Lifeguarding, First- Aid, and CPR/AED certificates; training available if no current certification. Possession or ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operators certification.
Preferred:
One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience with pool chemistry, pool maintenance, general building maintenance, and staff supervision. Knowledge of operation, repair and maintenance of swimming pools, equipment, and facilities. Understanding of hazards and safety precautions applicable to pool maintenance. Chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing. Current pool maintenance codes and regulations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 70 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Working Environment:
Outdoor and indoor environments; irregular working hours; work with or in water; slippery/uneven surfaces; exposure to inclement weather; chemicals; fumes; and solvents. Maintaining a sitting position for long periods of time. Climbing to a height of greater than 5 feet.
