Certifications/Licenses Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field. (Master’s Degree is preferred)
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s Mayor’s Office is looking to hire an Economic Development Director who will be responsible for creating and implementing programs that spur business growth, employment opportunities, and increased revenue. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, working with a range of stakeholders, including businesses,
government officials, and community leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Promote economic growth and development in the local community.
- Collaborate with local businesses and organizations to attract new businesses
- Work with existing businesses to expand and enhance their operations.
- Seek out and secure grants and financing opportunities to support economic development.
- Provide research and analysis on economic trends and opportunities in the region.
- Serve as a liaison between government agencies and local businesses.
- Develop marketing and branding strategies to attract investors and talent to the community
- Create and implement workforce development initiatives to support job growth
- Work to improve infrastructure and transportation systems to support economic growth.
- Regularly measure and evaluate the success of economic development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field. - Required
- Master's Degree - Preferred
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of Economic Development experience in any capacity.
- Understanding of the City of Chicopee, its development patterns, its priorities, and contemporary context.
- Well-developed knowledge of economic development, planning principles, and practices.
- Effective grant, report, and plan writing techniques.
- Project management and administration.
- Community, Board and Commission, and City Staff outreach efforts.
- Knowledge of the principles, methodology and practices of research and data collection.
- Good leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
