Salary: Grade A05, Step 01 -$21.42 - $28.28/Hour
Schedule: Mon-Fri – 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Certifications/Licenses Required: MA Class D Driver’s License
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s Police Department is hiring a Principal Clerk who will be involved in performing complex clerical duties that require a significant level of decision making, under the supervision of the Administrative Specialist. The individual in this role is responsible for various aspects of the police department's payroll, including processing accounts payable and receivable, purchase orders, providing customer service, and completing other office tasks. The candidate must be capable of multitasking, meeting deadlines, and working with minimal supervision. A high degree of confidentiality is required for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Verify weekly payroll for police personnel.
- Enter bi-weekly payroll, including outside detail payments, into Munis.
- Proof payroll warrant sheets to verify that each employee was paid correctly.
- Maintains records for police personnel using military or family medical leave.
- Process petty cash monthly, or as needed.
- Process and record payments to police personnel who are entitled to receive a meal allowance.
- Complete bank employment verifications upon request.
- Process uniform payments to police personnel.
- Process longevity payments to police personnel.
- Prepare deposits for various monies received by the Police Department.
- Type correspondences when necessary.
- Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) certified to respond to the public and daily written requests with confidentiality as to what police information is to be released.
- Must be detail-orientated and work under minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform multi-task assignments and meet deadlines.
- Deal with the public in person and by phone in a professional manner.
- Ability to perform job assignments in the absence of the Administrative Specialist.
- Provide support in daily office operations during the absence of other clerical staff.
- Perform similar or related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License. – Required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Windows, Excel, Publisher, Access).
- Knowledge of Munis. – Preferred
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize job assignments and meet deadlines.
