What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Leader - Summer Seasonal position at City of Chino Hills?
The City of Chino Hills is looking for enthusiastic, part-time staff for our upcoming Recreation Summer Day Camps and programs. Recreation Leaders must be available to work from the last week of May through August, with a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on program needs.
As a key part of our team, Recreation Leaders will play an essential role in serving the Chino Hills community. We’re looking for responsible, safety-conscious, and friendly individuals with a positive customer service attitude.
Job assignments include:
- Youth Programs (Summer Day Camp & Mobile Recreation)
- Employees will be assigned to work at varies parks and facilities for programs designed for children ages 6 to 12 years old.
- Employees must be willing to work to the 9-week programs that runs June 2 - August 3, Monday to Friday, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
- Chino Hills Special Events, Sports and Facility Operations
- Employees will assist in planning and executing summer events and opening parks and recreation facilities.
- Continued employment opportunities may be available after summer season based on City programming needs.
This part-time position requires flexibility, with the potential to work up to 29 hours per week.

Some of the essential Recreation Leader duties you may be responsible for:
- Provide customer service to the public; assist in planning activities and events.
- Lead and supervise group activities and programs such as indoor/outdoor games, sports, arts and crafts, special events and other related activities.
- Chaperone youth participants.
- Process registrations for classes, special events and facilities; accept payments and issue receipts.
- Maintain and prepare sports fields.
- Maintain a safe program environment for participants.
- Assist in the opening and closing of City facilities; ensure facilities are secure upon closing.
- Respond to the public; answer inquiries and give information pertaining to programs that are offered.
- Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner.
- This position may perform other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
This position requires a minimum of one (1) year paid or volunteer experience working in a recreation setting or a closely related field.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to the completion of the ninth grade. Must be 16 years of age at the time of appointment (hire). If still in high school and under the age of 18, you will be required to obtain a work permit prior to first day of work.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:
First Aid/CPR and AED Certification for Infants/Adults completed through or acknowledged by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
The City will offer free training for this certificate to candidates hired before May 27, 2025.
