This employee supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for professional and technical engineering operations. Employee ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Performs related work as required.

Additional Information
This position is for a Supervising Engineer in the Cincinnati Park Board’s Planning and Design Division. The Supervising Engineer will assist the Division Manager in leading a variety of exciting capital improvement and maintenance projects across more than 5,000 acres and 150 properties.
Key projects include:
  • Designing new playgrounds and parks.
  • Monitoring and maintaining mechanical systems (geothermal and HVAC).
  • Replacing storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
  • Rehabilitating historic buildings and park grounds.
  • Implementing erosion control, armoring, and sinkhole corrections.
  • Managing art installations, property alterations, and park entrance projects.
  • Overseeing construction activities.
This role also involves managing capital improvement initiatives, prioritizing projects, and developing systems to equitably and efficiently allocate resources—both funding and staff. The ideal candidate will bring expertise across these engineering areas and be eager to apply their skills to enhance Cincinnati’s park system.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Exhibit a passion for enhancing and protecting parks and greenspaces.
  • Have 5 years of experience as a Professional Engineer and a strong background in managing complex engineering or construction projects.
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate projects involving diverse stakeholders, including Parks staff, other City departments, contractors, donors, City leaders, and park visitors.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of stormwater drainage, analysis, and site design, with a focus on sustainability, resiliency, and erosion control.
  • Lead and oversee junior staff, ensuring deadlines are set and met.
  • Be proficient in design and presentation software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Rhinoceros, hydraulic modeling software, and PDF editing tools.

Knowledge of:

Modern complex principles and practices of engineering, as related to assigned area of responsibility.

Principles of surveying and of collecting field data.

Systems, machinery, and processes used in assigned area of responsibility.

Principles of budget preparation and control.

Principles of management, supervision, training, and performance evaluation.

Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations; Cincinnati Municipal Code.

Employee Safety Instruction Manual.

Computer operation and computer software related to assigned area of responsibility.

City human resources policies and procedures; union contracts.

Construction principles, practices, and materials used.


Skill to:

Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software.

Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty.


Ability to:

Implement and maintain positive employee relations.

Promote and maintain the highest integrity throughout all personnel.

Analyze and manage effective EEO/AA programs

Apply professional engineering judgment to complex problems and situations.

Analyze and interpret field data.

Apply City human resources policies and procedures.

Prepare and manage an assigned budget.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; prepare clear and concise reports.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.

Operate assigned vehicle in performance of job duties.

 

TRANSCRIPTS AND RESUME MUST BE ATTACHED OR YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED. 

Open: Each applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. In addition, each applicant must have five years of experience in project management, or project design for transportation/site development projects, construction projects, or similar disciplines.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Driver's License. Must be an excellent communicator and team builder. Possession of registration with the State of Ohio as a Professional Engineer. If not registered in Ohio when appointed, Ohio registration must be obtained during the probationary period.


MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION Military education and experience may be substituted for college-level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case-by-case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Salary : $92,749 - $128,234
