The Office of Epidemiology and Population Health (OEPH) is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the state of Cleveland residents’ health and applying this information to control disease and other negative health events. OEPH also provides health information, statistics and education to City Hall, external community groups, other programs within Cleveland Department of Public Health (CDPH). As an intern, you will gain valuable experience in public health epidemiology and have the opportunity to contribute to important public health initiatives.
Primary Duties:
- Calculate relevant statistics to describe the health of Cleveland residents
- Create tables, maps, and data visualizations
- Assist preparation of reports, infographics, and presentations
- Assist with infectious disease data entry and reporting
- Data cleaning and management
- Participate in meetings between OEPH and external stakeholders

Additional Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate public health program
- Basic knowledge of any programming language (R or SAS preferred)
- Strong data management and analysis skills
- Familiarity with epidemiological methods
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to different racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and people with different gender identities, cultural differences and disabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ArcGIS or other mapping software preferred

Location: In-person, Cleveland Department of Public Health, 75 Erieview Plaza, Cleveland, Ohio 44114
Work Schedule: PART-TIME; Minimum 10 hours, maximum 20 hours per week.
Flexible scheduling between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday
Duration: Recruiting for the 2025-2026 academic year (August-May). Internship can be extended if agreed on by both the student and CDPH.
- Students may be asked to provide a sample of code from a previous project (any language)
- OEPH interns have the opportunity to complete their capstone project or practicum at CDPH
