JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Division at the City of Cocoa is looking for a high energy, enthusiastic intern to work in a professional environment. The Human Resources Internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various HR functions within the public sector. This internship will offer exposure to key areas such as recruitment life cycle, pre-employment assessments, talent acquisition analytics, compensation and benefits, employment and labor law, organizational and employee development, Workers’ Compensation, HR information systems (HRIS), employee relations, and diversity initiatives. This role requires a high level of confidentiality, strong organizational skills, initiative, and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Work will be reviewed through meetings, reports, and evaluations of outcomes. The intern must demonstrate clear and professional communication with employees, citizens, elected officials, and representatives of both internal and external organizations. The Human Resources Intern reports directly to the Human Resources Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist in maintaining personnel records, organizing files, and preparing HR-related documents while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with municipal policies.
- Support the hiring process by posting job openings, reviewing applications, and coordinating candidate communication.
- Help with onboarding new employees, preparing orientation materials, and responding to general HR inquiries from staff.
- Assist in researching and updating HR policies, ensuring adherence to labor laws, municipal regulations, and workplace standards.
- Assist in handling employee inquiries and supporting conflict resolution efforts by gathering information, drafting reports, and ensuring compliance with workplace policies and procedures.
- Support the coordination of employee training sessions, workshops, and professional development programs.
- Update and manage HR databases, track employee information, and generate reports as needed.
- Provide assistance in benefits administration, employee inquiries, and payroll-related documentation.
- Participate in HR initiatives, community outreach, and other programs supporting the City of Cocoa.
- Perform clerical duties such as drafting correspondence, handling mail, answering phone calls, and assisting with HR events.
- Provides information to other departments and the public, applying knowledge of department rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Works effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public; deals tactfully and courteously with the public and maintains composure in difficult and/or stressful situations.
- Performs related work as required.

- Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office and various office equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent with one (1) or more years of office administration experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a credentialed Human Resources or Business-related baccalaureate program. For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida Driver's License, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire.
