About the job: Performs entry-level work in the Parks and Recreation Department. Assists Recreation/Fitness staff and maintains and monitors the recreation facility, fitness centers, and parks. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Hours of Work: Full-time (40) hours per week. Must be available to work mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings (Monday - Sunday), holidays, and special events. Days/hours are subject to change.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties when assigned to Fitness Center
- Welcomes and greets all members and guests that come to the Recreation Complex and Community Center Fitness Centers.
- Provides tours of facility.
- Informs facility users of various fitness memberships, Group Exercise classes, incentive programs, Personal Training services, guest pass information, upcoming promotions and special events.
- May conduct entry level fitness programs/classes with a certification from an accredited affiliation in personal training or group exercise and/or possess a degree in exercise science or other health-related fields.
- Enforces all facility and program policies.
- Provides direction and assistance to users of the fitness facility.
- Offers useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise program and/or use of equipment.
- Answers/makes phone calls, processes memberships, schedules and logs fitness appointments, assessments, orientations and personal training sessions.
- Provides safe instructions when conducting equipment orientations for all cardiovascular, plated and selectorized fitness equipment.
- Maintains and cleans all cardiovascular, plated and selectorized fitness equipment.
- Performs everyday maintenance tasks within the fitness area.
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
- Welcomes and greets all members and guests that come to the Recreation Complex and Community Center.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of recreation, athletics, special needs, camps, special events and specialized activities.
- Monitors recreation facilities to ensure security, proper working order of equipment, cleanliness of the area and other potential maintenance hazards. Informs supervisor of any issues and when work orders are needed. Conducts minor maintenance.
- Opens and secures facility for public use.
- Handles park/facilities reservations and participant registrations, inputs monies and maintains accurate records for financial reconciliations and filing.
- Provides assistance with moving and setting up equipment for meetings, programs, special events and specialized activities.
- Assists with ordering supplies and equipment; keeps track of inventory.
- Serves as staff for the front desk and fitness center as needed.
- Conducts entry-level recreational programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
- Handles specific assignments/job tasks for each City-wide special event.
High school diploma or GED; six (6) months of work experience in
the planning and implementation of recreation/athletics/fitness programs and/or experience in the fitness industry with the use of fitness equipment is preferred.
Must have a Florida driver's license Class E and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications before 1st day of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained
performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting,
carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that
require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use
of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a
keyboard or work station and extended periods of standing and/or walking.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse
conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity,
rain, temperature, and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric
currents, animals/wildlife, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may
involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
