Mechanic
The Department of Public Works of the City of College Park is looking for a Full-time Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and vehicle repair on a variety of City vehicles and equipment. The Mechanic will be expected to work independently but under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor.
Some of the duties include:
- Skilled master-level mechanic with proficiencies in hydraulics, diesel, gasoline, EV, and various equipment.
- Ensure all vehicle and equipment standards are maintained.
- Performing a variety of tasks concerning repair, modifying, and maintaining special-purpose vehicles, including snow removal equipment, dump trucks, mowers, leaf vacs, and other equipment.
- Inspection and diagnosis of malfunctions.
- Conducting road calls in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown
The mechanic is expected to be able to work on various gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment, such as cars, pickup trucks, dump trucks, trash trucks, snowplows/spreaders, and landscaping equipment.
The position requires experience with trucks and hydraulics. The primary duty hours are Monday through Friday, from 7 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
The minimum requirements are:
- Four years of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Valid Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement preferred (must obtain B-CDL within one year)
- good driving record.
Preference will be given to those with a refrigeration license and/ or class A CDL.
The minimum starting range is $28.10-$29.99 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Qualified applicants should submit an application online at www.collegeparkmd.gov
