What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Electrical Engineer I/II position at City of College Station?
Under supervision of the Electric Engineering and Design Superintendent, the Graduate Engineer conducts engineering design and construction studies and projects for electrical substation, transmission, and/or distribution projects. Assist in long range distribution and transmission build out and load planning. Manage projects to ensure capital projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the functional requirements of the City of College Station. Perform analysis for Designers to aid in providing service to new customers, maintaining service to existing customers, and ensuring the timely expansion of the electrical system to provide service to future customers. Maintain NERC and ERCOT compliance through participation with regulatory working groups and performing required system studies.
- Provide project management for a variety of large capital improvement projects, including facilitating meetings with the A/E consulting firms, City departments, and construction contractors; reviewing design submittals; working with a land agent to acquire ROW and easements; developing project schedules; and monitoring budgets.
- Conduct engineering research, prepare engineering reports, make computations, and make time and material estimates. Develop and maintain material specifications and College Station Utility’s (CSU) spec book and Guide Book.
- Perform ERCOT and NERC required system studies (e.g., ALDR, FERC 715, dynamic stability studies) using PSSE and Aspen software to meet compliance requirements.
- Perform/manage distribution system studies such as, Arc Flash; system expansion; fuse coordination; distribution feeder loading and switching; and transformer sizing.
- Investigate outage reports to determine system improvements to address overloaded or inadequate facilities, wildlife protection, vegetation management, or aged infrastructure to reduce future customer outages.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: Graduate Electrical Engineer I
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Valid Texas Driver License
Texas Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, preferred
Graduate Electrical Engineer II
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical engineering and two (2) to four (4) years of electrical engineering experience
Texas Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within six (6) months of date of hire
Valid Texas Driver License
Preferred: Knowledge of industry standard computer programs
Experience as a project engineer in consulting engineering
Public speaking experience
