What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Maintenance Technician position at City of Collinsville?
The City of Collinsville is currently accepting applications for the full-time, hourly position of Parks Maintenance Technician. This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Parks and Open Spaces.
The Parks Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing varied skilled and semi-skilled duties in maintenance relative to City-owned properties and equipment including landscaping, horticulture, playground equipment, athletic field maintenance and lake maintenance. This position may serve as a team leader for at least one crew or part-time and/or seasonal employees.
Representative Work Duties
Maintain and enhance parks and recreational facilities through a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Maintenance of turf areas including mowing, trimming, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, weed control and landscape maintenance; maintenance and care of athletic fields including grooming, grading, rolling and line marking.
- Operation of light and heavy-duty motor vehicle equipment and tools such as pickup and dump trucks, bobcats, tractors, field grooming equipment, rollers, compressors, chainsaws, generators, pumps
- Maintain the cleanliness of the parks - cleaning public restrooms, properly disposing of all trash bags and litter, graffiti removal.
- Painting, constructing playgrounds and picnic tables, landscaping (including hardscapes and stone wrapping), tree cutting and planting, and general upkeep
- Performing snow and ice removal as necessary.
Activities are performed mainly outdoors and exposure to weather - ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold - and associated elements like rain, snow, ice, wind, etc. Exposure to various chemicals (fertilizers, cleaning agents, oil fuels, etc.) is to be expected.
Schedule may be flexed during peak season with night and/or weekend work included in the regular schedule. Ability to work weekends and evenings for ball field tournaments, special events, after hour programs, and weather events.
Qualifications
This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.
Candidates must pass a criminal background investigation and have a valid driver's license.
A pesticide applicator/operator license, CPSI, and turf management knowledge are preferred.
Salary and Benefits
This is a non-exempt, hourly position starting at $40,705.60 per year (eligible for overtime and compensation time).
