SEASONAL - Election Worker

About the Job:
In this position you will support the Colorado Springs’ City Clerk’s Office during the election process.
Job Type: Seasonal
Work Schedule: Hours worked may include up to 40 hours per week and as late as 2:00 a.m. on election night. This position requires in office presence. Employment will be limited to approximately 1 month.
Work Location: 30 South Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Approximate dates of employment will be March to April. Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.

Essential Job Functions
- the basic job duties and functionality of the position is at the discretion of the City Clerk but could involve any of the following:

  • Collecting ballots from drop off locations throughout the City with accurate completion of activity logs.
  • Sorting, scanning, signature review, and discrepancy resolution of ballots utilizing election related software computer-based programs with accurate completion of audit logs.
  • Removing ballots from envelopes with identification and resolution of damaged ballots or discrepancies which would otherwise hinder the counting process, and preparation of ballots for tabulation with accurate completion of audit logs.
  • Individuals will be required to abide by all City, County, State, and Federal election laws, rules, and regulations by following processes outlined in the City’s standard operating procedures; maintains awareness of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assists staffed employees in the auditing process as needed.
  • Participates in training to further understand procedures and regulations in the election process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Be a registered voter in the state of Colorado
  • Be at least 18 years of age

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an election worker/judge.
