Historical Interpreter - Rock Ledge Ranch - (Seasonal Position)
About the Job: Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services seeks a Historical Interpreter to work at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site.
Job Type: Seasonal
Work Schedule: Typical schedule will be Wednesday - Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and Sunday from 12:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Work Location: 3105 Gateway Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80904
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Approximate dates of employment will be from the end of May through mid August. Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Potential opportunities to work additional special events Sept - Nov. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
As a Historical Interpreter - Rock Ledge Ranch , you will:
- Enthusiastically initiate conversations with visitors of varied ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds
- Tell the story of the Pikes Peak region and of the people who lived and worked at Rock Ledge Ranch in a compelling and thought-provoking way
- Conduct hands-on historical and educational activities for visitors
- Supervise adult and junior volunteers
- Perform basic housekeeping in the historic areas
- Demonstrate traditional crafts, cooking, and culture
- Obtain an in-depth and varied historical knowledge of American history and culture through continuous training and research
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Ability to facilitate discussions of sensitive topics
- Ability to remain organized and on time
- Have education or experience in history, agriculture, education, or other related field
- Education and/or experience in history, agriculture, education, or other related field
- Public speaking experience with large and small groups
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of Pikes Peak area and United States history
- Experience with traditional arts, crafts, and culture
Physical Demands: The ability to occasionally lift 35 pounds and stand, stoop, climb, bend, and/or walk for extended periods is also required.
Environmental Conditions: Outside in all weather conditions.
